Corporate Blogging Guidelines
Corporate Blogging Guidelines:
Nowadays it is expected to have a blog set up for your company. The problem with company blogs is that they become stale. The reason for this is that the content put on the blog was carefully crafted and lacks any sort of creativity, or the task of updating the blog becomes dreaded and those that are assigned to update the blog start to slack. The problem with blogging is maintaining control. Basically, management needs to go easier on the blogging employee and allow them freedom to write about things other than your “incredible new forays into the Chinese market,” and your “acquisition of first quarter clients.” No one really cares about this and before long your audience will not stand for that divel for long.
Here are some corporate blogging guidelines to make your blog enjoyable to read for your visitors:
1.Stay Honest: People will appreciate your blog more if your blog does more than just cheer on the company.
2.Keep it Moving – Post Frequently: When you blog, people will become faithful to your blog unless you don’t post any new content for a week or more. You need to try to post one blog a day at least.
3.Share: Linking improves your chances of being seen by others. For instance, if you find something that is interesting and related to your industry, share a link to that story or article with your readers.
4.Tag It: These are the words and phrases that you put at the end of the post that lets people know what your blog is all about and most important. Basically, if you are to be writing about laser surgery, you might tag the post with “laser surgery.”
5.Put Information in Your Titles – Or Be Intriguing: For the most part, people only pay attention to the title, so if your title is not intriguing then people will probably not read your blog.
6.People Like Pictures: To help convey your idea, put a picture in your post, it can be funny or informative.
7.Check Spelling: People will judge you on the use or misuse of the English language. Misspelling will hurt you.
8.Moderate Comments: Make sure to delete all of the abusive comments people leave because this can hurt you.
9.Allow Anonymous Comments: Some people like to only comment anonymously, so make sure you allow this option, unless it starts to be a nuisance or people are abusing this privilege.
10.Controlling Comment Spam: To control the spammers make sure to have people type in a verification code before the comment is visible because spammers unfortunately have figured out ways to post comments on blogs.
11.Avoid Fights: Sometimes people will challenege claims you make in your post. They might even be rude in their comment they leave. So make sure to address their concerns in a way that will be civil.
12.Promote: This is your blog, so remember that it is okay to promote upcoming events. Specials, appearances, speeches and anything else about your company.
13.Visit and Comment at Other Blogs: Another great way to drive traffic to your site is to visit other blogs and offer relevant comments about a particular post. For instance, if you are a lasik surgeon and you run across a blog and someone is talking about how they are having trouble seeing, you might reply with something along these lines, “Hey, so and so. Bummer on squinting. I might be able to help.” Signed “Dr D” with Dr D being linked to your blog.
I hope these corporate blogging guidelines that I have listed above help you out in setting up your blog. If you are still confused or just need help, you can contact Dexterity Media for more information on this.
